Changing the Face of London Fashion Week – BPSFW

Despite years of tiny figures gracing our catwalks, the fashion industry is finally beginning to broaden
its horizons to include many more beautiful women, only this time, size is not an issue.

Nicknamed, ‘the shape of fashion’s future,’ London Plus Size Fashion Weekend (LPSFW) began on
February 15th and saw plus size women everywhere rejoice.

Considering the average British women’s dress size is a size 14 to 16, the changing face of London
Fashion Week is a welcome addition to the fashion industry. Stylists, bloggers and fashion fanatics
are embracing the addition with open arms.

Falling into the plus size category has not always been easy for many and so a number of the women
present told how the event represented a refreshing and inspiring beginning, the start of something
special. It’s now time to finally see normal women looking fabulous in the clothes that had once felt
somewhat forbidden to those possessing normal figures.

The event showcased the work of designers, models and retailers, giving a platform to those
focussing on women who wear sizes 14 and above. Firmly holding the belief that size shouldn’t
dictate style, UK plus size clothing brand Curvissa, played a big part in the event with their gorgeous
selection of clothes for women of all shapes and sizes.

Spread out over the course of the weekend, the diverse beauty in fashion was celebrated and all the
latest trends were flaunted in comfortable and flattering styles, with a strong focus on affordable
pieces without the premium price tags. LPSFW has been supported by a wide community of people
who love fashion and believe that style shouldn’t be limited to those who are a size zero.

The event was organised by London College of Fashion graduate Remi Ray, a woman hoping to mark
a significant change in the industry. She told of her inspiration behind the project. “I had always
felt uncomfortable trying to fit into mainstream fashion when my shape didn’t conform to what is
perceived to be mainstream sizes.”

Remi also told how she dreams of inspiring others to be comfortable in their own skin. “If our event
makes at least one plus size woman overcome her fears and encourages her to indulge in her love
for clothes and feeling great, then we will have done our job!”.

The event certainly seems to suggest an exciting road ahead for trendy women everywhere.
