I recently had a rather tipsy late evening conversation with a friend, and for some reason unknown to me I referred to The Nanny. To keep it short – my friend had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. Even after I wholeheartedly blasted out the jingle to the series. This shouldn’t happen. I thoroughly believe that The Nanny is one of the most fashion forward series in the past 20 years, if not even the most fashion forward one ( and yes I do acknowledge Sex and the City) however, this is something very different. The outfits Fran Drescher as Nanny Fine wears are very 90′s yet, at the same time, I swear I see a lot of these reflected in the fashion in the past years and current years. The cuts, colours, leopard print, the big fluffy orange jacket, colour blocks à la Kantrantzou.. Personally, as my poor friend must have experienced, I grew up with this show and will always adore it. Not exclusively because of Fran Fine – the wacky but loveable Nanny-, which is the only one I’ll illustrate with images, but also because of all the other characters, especially the notoriously serious Mrs. C.C. Babcock, all of them are impeccably well dressed. So should it happen to you that someone tries to sing the theme song to this series as an audio aid, you now can prevent that and claim full knowledge, .. at least fashion wise.
